Philanthropy

Alpha Chi Omega’s national philanthropy is Domestic Violence Awareness. Since 1992, Alpha Chi Omega chapters across the nation have fought the tragic actions that one in four women nationwide suffer. To stand against domestic violence we provide education, awareness, and support to our communities as well as sisters.

The Kappa Upsilon chapter locally supports the Lotus House and In Transition Shelter, which provides shelter and outreach services for domestic violence victims and their families. To support the shelters, the chapter holds multiple events and donation drives year-round. Carnival days are organized where sisters are able to come in play with the children of the shelter. In October, we educate our peers through Healthy Relationships week. In the spring, we host Omega Man, a pageant within our Greek life, where a philanthropic representative is chosen. This large event was able to raise over $10,000 in 2016. During the summer we hold the Alpha Chi Invitational, which brings together members of our community to participate in a volleyball tournament and raise money for domestic violence awareness.

Alpha Chi Omega members are not only passionate about our own philanthropy but also are involved in numerous events within the community such as Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, and Alternative Breaks, just to name a few.

Alternative Breaks is a community service program at FIU that allows students to travel and help others while learning something about themselves, too.

The Alpha Chi Omega Collegiate Global Service Initiative combines direct service, immersion and Alpha Chi Omega principles and values into one unique experience.

While traveling with sisters from across the country, participants will build, rebuild or remodel areas and structures of need; experience local customs and cultures; connect the experience to their Alpha Chi Omega experience; and be forever changed by the opportunity.

  • Philanthropic Representative

Alpha Chi Omega's Omega Man is a representative of our philanthropy. This representative hosts events to raise funds and awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness. Our current Omega Man, Henry Brimo, worked with the philanthropy team to develop Alpha Chi Invitational, where teams pay to compete in a volleyball tournament.
